KABUL (PAN): Two back-to-back explosions took place in this heavily-fortified capital city late Sunday, the day a cabinet minister survived an assassination attempt in the western province of Herat.

A top police officer told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the blasts happened inside the grounds of the former British embassy building, rocking the entire Kart-e-Parwan neighbourhood.

Kabul police chief Abdur Rehman Rehman said another blast took place in the jurisdiction of the 15th police station. The exact site of the blast is yet to be known.

Syedzada confirmed the second explosion that took place in the posh locality of Khairkhana. He said the blast resulted from explosives owned by police.
