Security officials in northern Takhar province say a local rebel commander involved in militant activities has surrendered to government.

A source in the National Directorate of Security (NSD) told Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday commander Rasul had surrendered along with six supporters.

The intelligence official revealed the commander also turned in a rocket launcher, five Klashnikov assault rifles and a machine gun.
