A Taliban commander was killed and five other suspects were captured alive in an overnight operation in the Waghaz district of southern Ghazni province.
The provincial police chief, in a chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, identified the slain commander as Mullah Manan, a resident of the insurgency-plagued Qarabagh district.
Brig. Gen. Khyalbaz Sherzai said another rebel commander Mullah Khaliq, a resident of Waghaz district, was among those arrested. AK-47 assault rifles and five hand-grenades were seized during the operation.
