Four suspected militants were killed late Wednesday night by their own explosives in the Dand district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Thursday.

Deputy police chief of the province, Col. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels were killed as the explosives they were carrying went off on their way to Kandahar City.

The explosion left a 20-metre crater in the ground and destroyed a jeep, a motorcycle and a bicycle in the Gari desert area. One of the militants wore a police uniform, he added.
